If you work in laboratory informatics, I may hold a record about you. This page explains what is in it, where it came from, what I do with it, and how to have it changed or deleted. No jargon, and nothing hidden.
Who I am
LabTech Talent is a specialist recruitment business working in laboratory informatics: LIMS, ELN, lab IT, lab automation and scientific data, across the UK and Europe.
LabTech Talent is the trading name of Vickesh Raithatha, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. I am the data controller for the information described here, which means I decide what is held and why, and I am responsible for looking after it.
What I hold
If you work in this field, the record is usually some or all of:
- Your name, job title and employer
- Your location, at city or region level
- A link to your public LinkedIn profile
- The systems and skills you work with
- Notes on any conversations we have had, and my own view on what you might suit
- If you have told me: salary or day rate expectations, notice period, right to work, what you are looking for, and your CV
For clients and prospective clients it is usually name, job title, employer, work contact details and notes on our conversations.
What I never hold
I do not record anything about health, family circumstances, religion, politics, race, sexual life, trade union membership or criminal records. That is special category data and there is no good reason for a recruiter to hold it.
I also do not record comments about how someone looks, or anything else that is not about the work.
Where it comes from
Most of it comes from public professional sources, which usually means LinkedIn. Some comes from you directly, in a message, an email, a call or a CV. A small amount comes from someone who suggested I speak to you.
If I found you rather than the other way round, I will tell you so the first time I contact you.
Why I hold it, and the legal basis
The lawful basis is legitimate interests, under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR. The legitimate interest is running a recruitment business: knowing who works in a specialist field, so that when a relevant role comes up I can tell the right people about it.
I have weighed that against your interests. The information is professional rather than personal, the volume is small, and you can object at any time and I will act on it. That is the balance I have struck. If you think I have struck it wrongly, tell me.
If you send me your CV or ask me to put you forward for a role, I am then handling your information to take steps at your request, which is Article 6(1)(b).
Who sees it
Nobody, unless you say so. I never send your details, your CV or your name to a client without asking you first and getting a yes, for that specific role, at that specific company.
The information sits in my own systems, which are Microsoft 365 and a spreadsheet on my own machine and in my own OneDrive. Those providers handle data on my behalf under their own terms. No third party buys, rents or receives your information for their own purposes, and I do not sell data to anyone.
Where it is kept
The UK and the European Economic Area, and in Microsoft's cloud infrastructure, which may involve transfers outside the UK under the safeguards Microsoft has in place.
How long I keep it
Two years from the last time we were meaningfully in touch, then I review it and delete anything that is no longer useful. If you ask me to delete it sooner, I will.
If I have placed you, I keep enough to meet tax and contractual obligations for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can:
- See what I hold about you. All of it, including my own notes, not a tidied summary. I will respond within one month.
- Have it corrected if it is wrong.
- Have it deleted.
- Object to me holding it at all. Because the basis is legitimate interests you have a right to object, and in practice I will simply remove you.
- Ask me to restrict what I do with it while something is being sorted out.
- Get a copy in a portable format.
There is no charge for any of this and you do not need to give a reason.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, tell me first and I will try to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at any time, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this page
If this page changes in any meaningful way I will update the date at the top. The version published here is always the one that applies.
Getting in touch
To see, correct or delete what I hold, or to be removed altogether, email me and say what you want. That is the whole process.
